Over the years a large number of different RCUs have been used with Toppys. Some of the more common ones are:
TP013 - 5000 Masterpiece - has support for 4 modes
TP307 - TF7100HDPVRtPlus, 7160, 7170, 7260
TP501 - TRF-2400, TRF-2460, TRF-2470, TRF-5300/5310/5320, TRF-8800
TP800 - TRF-7260, TRF-7260Plus, TRF-2100, TRF-2200, TRF-8800, TBF-100HD, TBF-200HD, TF-T6211
TP807 - TRF-7160, TRF-7170, TF7100PVRt Plus
TP850 - TRF-2400, TRF-2460, TRF-5300/5310/5320, TRF-8800, TBF-100HD, TBF-200HD, TF-T6211
TP857 There is no information on which units, if any, this units ships with.
Older RCUs are relatively heavy, but the newer ones are much lighter and in the view of some more comfortable to hold, as well as having larger keys.
Most Toppy RCUs can be emulated by after-market RCUs such as the Harmony range. Not all keys will be mapped correctly, and for models that support multiple RCUs it may be difficult to get the correct mode. In the latter case, if the same RCU is used by another Toppy, you can use that model to set up the RCU. For example, the TRF-7260 supports 2 RCUs, one of which is also used by the TRF-7160 and the other by the TBF-100HD.
RCUs that control TV and or DVD player as well as a Toppy can be reset. These 'universal' RCUs are the TP501, TP602, TP850 and TP857. The more recent models can only control a TV (including ones with built-in DVD players). Most, if not all, 'universal' RCUs can be reset, the procedures that are known are described in the section on Topfield Universal RCUs.
Which RCU will work with my Toppy?
Sometimes it is not obvious which RCU will work with which Toppy model; RCU support can vary between firmwares.
TRF-2400, TRF-2460, TRF-5300/5310/5320 and TRF-2470
Supported RCUs are TP501 (Mode 5) and TP800/TP850 (Mode 6). The TP602 will also work with these Toppys.
TF7100HDPVRt
Supports the TP304 (mode 4), and TP800/TP850 (mode 6) RCUs1.
TF7100HDPVRt Plus, TRF-7160 and TRF-7170
Supports the TP307, TP807 and TP857 RCUs.
TRF-7260/TRF-7260 Plus
Supports the TP307, TP807 and TP857 (mode 1) and the TP800 and TP850 (mode 6). The TP602 also works with this Toppy.
TF-T6000
Has pre-sets for using TP501 and TP602 (this setting also fully supports the TP800 and TP850).
TF-T6211, TBF-100HD and TBF-200HD
Supports the TP800 and TP850 RCUs. The TP602 is not supported by the TF-T62112, and the same is possibly true for the TBF-100HD and TBF-200HD.
TRF-2100 and TRF-2200
Supports the TP304 and TP804 (mode 4) and TP800, TP850 (mode 6). It should also support a TP013 set to mode 4.
RCUs support via RemoteSwitch TAP
The use of the RemoteSwitch TAP is discussed here.
Where can I get an RCU fo my Toppy?
You can purchase original Toppy RCUs on ebay, also from oztoppy forum member fixmydata and nasaelectronics.
A wide rage of aftermarket RCUs designed for Toppys ares sold by European company, Remote Control World.
You can also use Universal Remote controls such as those made by Logitech - however you usually have to manually train the RCU for some key functions, particularly the white options key.
